Preview: Supersonic ‘Clap’

At its top-secret Skunk Works plant in Palmdale, Lockheed Martin Corp. is developing an experimental plane designed to minimize noise when the aircraft passes the sound barrier.If successful, the technology could allow commercial jets to double their airspeed, cutting typical travel times in half.Research for the X-59 is financed by a $248 million contract from NASA, and several subcontractors for the yet-to-be-built aircraft are located in the Valley region.Read the full story in the Aug. 2 issue of the San Fernando Valley Business Journal.
