Katz served in the California State Assembly for 16 years, including 10 years as chair of the Transportation Committee. He created the
Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) and served on the Metro and Metrolink boards for eight years. Katz owns a Sherman Oaks-based public policy and government relations firm, Richard Katz Consulting. He serves as chairman emeritus of the Valley Economic Alliance and is on the boards of Heal the Bay, the Saving the West Foundation, the Los Angeles Coalition, and the Luskin Public Policy Center at UCLA. He is chair of the West Coast Sports Medicine Foundation.
