Technicolor Digital Cinema has chosen to go with the NEC STARUS projector in its upcoming roll out of its digital cinema system. Camarillo-based Technicolor went with the STARUS projector following a series of tests at its Burbank facility for performance, reliability and functionality, company officials said. The STARUS NC2500S is the world’s largest projector for large-sized screens 49 feet wide and larger. “NEC’s strategic alliance with Technicolor is an example of industry expertise working together to advance the adoption of state-of-the-art technologies,” Kurt Schwenk, general manager of the Digital Cinema Division at NEC Solutions America, said. The roll out of the digital cinema equipment is scheduled to begin in May in up to 250 screens operated by Century Theatres, Inc. to test the equipment under real world conditions. Technicolor’s plans include having 15,000 screens in North America using digital cinema equipment within a decade.
