Sport Chalet Sees Sales, Net Rise

Sport Chalet Inc. today reported same store sales rose 6.8 percent for the company’s fiscal third quarter ended Dec. 31, a quarter that also saw the company turn in a 23 percent increase in net income. The La Canada-based retailer of sporting goods and apparel said net income for the three month period rose to $3.8 million or $0.53 per diluted share, up from $3.1 million or $0.44 per diluted share. Sales rose 20 percent to $96 million, versus $79.7 million in the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2003. Sport Chalet opened its first Central California location as well as a new store in Arcadia during the quarter. The company said it plans to open three stores in the Arizona market this year.
