Architecture Leidenfrost/Horowitz & Associates (LHA), an architectural firm with offices in Glendale and San Diego, has announced promotions of senior associates in the company’s Glendale office. Gordon Forrest, AIA is now associate principal. Forrest will be responsible for project management of educational projects. Noel Q. Matic, AIA has been named associate principal. He will continue his responsibilities for feasibility master planning of commercial development projects. Andrew L. Quarress has been appointed associate principal. He will be responsible for project management of corporate retail projects. Roger B. Rozelle, AIA is also an associate principal. He will be responsible for project management of major retail and commercial projects. Entertainment Steven M. Bornstein has been named president, ABC Television. In his new role, Bornstein will oversee the ABC television network, ABC’s 10 television stations and Buena Vista Television, a provider of syndicated television programming. Bornstein replaces Robert F. Callahan, president of ABC Broadcast Group, who is leaving for personal reasons that require him to be based on the East Coast. Callahan will remain at ABC through September to help facilitate the transition. Bornstein was instrumental in developing ESPN and, under his leadership, ABC’s Internet business launched Enhanced TV, interactive online content and wireless applications. Steve Wadsworth, president of Walt Disney Internet Group, and William J. (John) Hare, president of ABC Radio, will report to Robert Iger , president and chief operating officer of The Walt Disney Co. Bornstein has served as chairman of Walt Disney Internet Group since September 1999. Previously, he was president of ABC Inc. Jon Michaels has joined Extraordinary Events, a meeting and event management firm, as a producer. For the past seven years, he has worked as a reporter, covering events such as the NBA Finals and the Rose Bowl. Over the past 15 years, he has also worked with Extraordinary Events in various capacities, from stage manager and hospitality coordinator to production assistant on the firm’s largest events. As a full-time producer, he will focus on special events. Health Care HealthAllies, a provider of health care benefits, appointed Cathy Cather vice president of national client relationship management. She is an expert in employee health benefits design and strategy. Cather joins HealthAllies from Towers Perrin, where she most recently participated in the e-health core team and co-led the health care strategy and total health management practices. Her new responsibilities include developing and leading HealthAllies’ relationships with Fortune 1000 employers as well as managing relationships with national benefits consultants. While at Towers Perrin, Cather was a senior consultant and led in-depth research of e-benefits companies. Before joining Towers Perrin in 1998, she was a senior vice president at AON, an insurance brokerage and consulting firm, where she led the integrated benefits practice. Mission Hills-based Facey Medical Group named Dr. Asha Saraf “2000 Physician of the Year.” Dr. Saraf is a pediatrician at the Facey Alhambra office. She performed her internship and residency at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Facey Medical Group has offices in Mission Hills, Northridge, Porter Ranch, Alhambra, Valencia, Canyon Country and Castaic. Finance Lars Ekstrom, Lisa G. Goldman and Edward W. Villeneuve have joined Goldsmith, Agio, Helms & Lynner, LLC, an independent investment banking firm providing M & A; advisory services to sellers of middle market business, as managing directors in the firm’s new Southern California office. Ekstrom, Goldman and Villeneuve were all previously with Greif & Co. Insurance Amwest Insurance Group promoted Jeffrey A. Shonka to president and chief operating officer and Phillip E. Huff to executive vice president and chief financial officer. Shonka has been with Amwest for almost 13 years and has served in a number of senior management positions. Huff joined the company in 1987 and has held a variety of positions including controller, treasurer and, most recently, senior vice president of finance. Calabasas-based Amwest is an insurance holding company underwriting surety insurance through two subsidiaries. Internet/Telecommunications Jockey Chris McCarron has joined the board of directors of Woodland Hills-based gambling Web site YouBet.com. During his career, McCarron has won more than $225 million in prize money, tops among jockeys. His 7,000 wins include the Triple Crown and the Breeder’s Cup. He was inducted into the Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame in 1989. McCarron has been the dot-com’s corporate spokesman and product advisor since 1996. He is filling the seat vacated by Charles Peebler Jr., chairman emeritus of True North Communications, who stepped down last month. Pharmaceuticals George Jones has been appointed vice president-sales and marketing of North American Scientific Inc. subsidiary Theseus Imaging Corp. In this newly created position, Jones will be responsible for developing sales and marketing strategies. Jones was previously vice president-worldwide marketing and sales of the Medical Imaging Division of DuPont Pharmaceuticals. He was responsible for the launch of DuPont’s Cardiolite imaging agent in Europe in 1987 and returned to the United States to head up the U.S. sales organization when the product was launched in North America. Jones spent more than 27 years in the Medical Imaging Division. Real Estate Cecilia Fong has joined PCS Development Inc., a regional real estate company, as its controller. Fong’s addition to the PCS team is part of the company’s plan to centralize its accounting functions. Fong will be responsible for PCS Development’s internal accounting functions and implementing new operational accounting policies, procedures and controls. Additionally, she will oversee cash flow planning for the company’s properties. Fong has an extensive background in real estate accounting and is expected to support the growth of PCS’s luxury apartment portfolio. Prior to joining PCS Development, she was the controller of Wilshire Management Corporation, a real estate management company in Santa Monica.
