Capstone Turbine Corp. is negotiating an agreement with two other companies to develop, produce and sell gas turbine commercial vehicle engines, the company announced. Chatsworth-based Capstone has entered into a memorandum of understanding to negotiate a joint venture with Agile Turbine Technology LLC and Brayton Energy LLC. The deal opens the door for the company to develop the next generation of microturbines for the vehicle market, Capstone interim President and CEO Mark Gilbreth said in a statement. The first product of the planned joint venture is an inter-cooled recuperated gas turbine vehicle engine able to provide 300 horse power for rapid acceleration, passing, hill climbing and sustained high power. “Traditional reciprocating engine manufacturers are faced with increasing regulatory pressure to continue to reduce emissions while increasing efficiency,” Gilbreth said. “We believe the patented ICR turbine concept provides the right answer to both of these market requirements.” Agile Turbine Technology designs advanced vehicle engines. Brayton Energy is a research and development firm specializing in turbomachinery and advanced combustion systems.
