Credit Union Gives $100K to Charities

Valencia-based Logix Federal Credit Union is donating $100,000 to five local charities. The nonprofit Community Stars, created by the bank’s employees, distributed funds to Carousel Ranch, Burbank Temporary Aid Center, Penny Lane Centers, For The Troops and Senior Concerns.

“The Logix team is dedicated to the community and being a good corporate partner,” said Leticia MezaGuerrero, the credit union’s senior vice president of retail banking and loan center. “Our mission is to help our members thrive, and that also is our goal in the community – to help local nonprofit organizations succeed, giving support to those who need it most.”

The charities have free rein for allocating the money to services and programs. Of the dollars distributed, the Burbank Temporary Aid Center, Penny Lane Centers and For the Troops received $25,000 each, while Senior Concerns and Carousel Ranch both were awarded $12,500.

“These dollars will support a full range of programs and services,” said Carousel Ranch executive director Taylor Adachi.

Carousel Ranch is based in Santa Clarita and provides equestrian therapy to children with special needs. According to Adachi, Logix employees will work on the ranch as part of the Community Star foundation’s time-off program allowing bank employees to receive paid time off for volunteering.

“In August, Logix employees will be volunteering with us, and we’re thrilled to have them meet our team and see our ranch,” Adachi said. “It will be their second time this year spending time making a difference with us through their Volunteer Time Off program.”

The Community Stars foundation was founded in 2007 and has raised more than $2 million for local nonprofits within Logix’s area of service. This is the second year the bank has partnered with these five charities; in 2022 Community Stars donated a total $180,000 to the nonprofit partners.

Each year the foundation board reviews charities in the community while credit union employees donate through fundraising drives and payroll deductions. Logix then matches its employees’ donations.

Chartered in 1937, Logix is now the largest credit union headquartered in Los Angeles county. The bank has more than 215,000 members and $9.7 billion in assets, and has been recognized four times on the Forbes best in-state credit unions list. Logix operates 18 branches in Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
