Greuel Proposes Banning Rush Hour Road Construction

Councilmember Wendy Greuel in the Los Angeles City Council today proposed banning construction on major roadways in the city limits during rush hour. There is no formal policy prohibiting rush hour street work, but the Bureau of Street Services avoids road work during peak hours. The Department of Water Power and Bureau of Engineering haven’t developed similar habits, according to Greuel’s office. “Very few problems come close to affecting our quality of life more than traffic congestion,” Greuel said. “City leaders must do everything to relieve traffic congestion and get people moving again. People deserve to spend more time with their families, volunteering at schools and running their businesses not sitting in traffic.”
