The Service Employees International Union has filed six unfair labor practice charges against the owner of the Glendale Galleria, General Growth Properties, and two of its sub-contracted companies. The SEIU complaint alleges that GGP and two of its cleaning contractors illegally interrogated, spied on, discriminated against, threatened to fire, and even fired workers who are active in the union. The incidents are said to have occurred at Glendale Galleria as well as at two other GGP-owned malls outside the state. Jim Graham, director of public affairs for General Growth, refuted the charges. “GGP strongly encourages its contractors to treat all janitors respectfully and properly,” Graham said. ” We do so recognizing that those hard working individuals contribute in significant ways to the quality shopping experience that we provide.”
