Superintendent, Los Angeles Unified School District
Carvalho has been superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District since February 2022. He oversees the district’s 2022-2026 Ready for the World strategic plan. He previously led Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Carvalho has served on the National Assessment Governing Board and as a committee member of the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine. Under Carvalho, LAUSD has established seven new education compacts with local municipalities, embarked on a “school greening” initiative and secured upgraded credit ratings, which has saved the district money.
