Bass Taps Tejon Ranch VP as Deputy Mayor

Rachel E. Freeman has been appointed by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass as Deputy Mayor for Business and Economic Development.

Freeman will be responsible for citywide economic policy, business development, land use and development services, and trade and tourism. She will also oversee the non-safety operations of Los Angeles World Airports and the Port of Los Angeles.

“The success of our business community is key to the success of our city,” Bass said in a statement. “Our team will work to make sure the challenges our businesses face are prioritized as we work together to make it clear that Los Angeles is open for business.”

Freeman currently serves as senior vice president of real estate for Tejon Ranch Company. She oversees land use and entitlements, sustainability, transportation/infrastructure and other development-related activities within Los Angeles County for the company.

Prior to Tejon Ranch Company, she held the position of president & CEO at Capri Retail Services, LLC, a subsidiary of Capri Capital Partners, LLC, a real estate investment management firm based in Chicago.

Freeman also served on former Mayor Eric Garcetti’s advisory board on Asian American Pacific Islanders in Los Angeles, the release added.
