MediaPulse Organizes TV Globo

Broadcaster updates to Xytech software system.

TV Globo, one of the largest television networks in the world and the largest commercial network in Latin America, has upgraded its technology to MediaPulse, from San Fernando Valley-based Xytech, a business software and services provider to the media industry.

Financial terms of the deal between Xytech in Chatsworth and TV Globo in Rio de Janeiro were not disclosed.

MediaPulse provides scheduling, automation, asset management, billing and cost recovery for broadcasters, media services companies and transmission facilities, according to a release from Xytech.

TV Globo upgraded its backend technology from ScheduALL to MediaPulse, starting in the fall, with the migration to the new platform for journalism, entertainment and sports. Then in December came the migration of its entertainment production into MediaPulse.

TV Globo is the first major broadcaster to undergo the upgrade process to MediaPulse, the release from Xytech said.

Luciana Povoa, TV Globo’s chief of content production solutions, said that when the Brazilian broadcaster was ready to upgrade from ScheduALL to MediaPulse, Xytech’s support team worked with it hand-in-hand.

“Xytech was always available for discussions and supported us during the entire decision-making process,” Povoa said in a statement. “The partnership in the discussions and implementations, as well as the readiness to understand the needs of the client is very important to the Xytech team, and it shows.”

Greg Dolan, chief operating officer for Xytech, said that the company was thrilled that its first major project after having done the deal for ScheduALL was with TV Globo.

“Earning the repeated trust of our clients over long periods of time is critical to Xytech’s success,” Dolan said in a statement. “TV Globo’s partnership in developing and releasing the most important new functionality in MediaPulse is exactly how we, at Xytech, partner with our clients to make sure our products remain vital to their success.”

Xytech acquired the ScheduALL business line more than a year ago from Swedish software company Net Insight AB in a transaction valued at $6 million.

ScheduALL’s software is similar to MediaPulse – a facilities management program that allows broadcasters, media companies and post-production houses to track their crewing, scheduling, billing and invoicing all in one place.

Richard Gallagher, chief executive of Xytech, said at the time of the deal that by combing the two companies, it would improve scale and offer even better products to both existing and new customers.

“ScheduALL is very well respected by some of the world’s leading media houses and I look forward to working with their strong team to continue to support their existing customer base,” Gallagher said in a statement at the time the deal was announced.

Today, TV Globo has approximately 3,000 registered users in the MediaPulse system with several operations management units logged in full time, Xytech said in its release.
