A new podcast from the Black Effect network, executive produced by radio personality Charlamagne tha God, is coming to the Valley area. “Eating While Broke,” an interview series featuring entrepreneurs and influencers discussing the meals they ate before they made it big, premiers Jan 20.
“The show really is about inspiring the underdog,” said Coline Witt, the creator, host and executive producer of “Eating While Broke.”
“It’s about, ‘I’m two seconds from killing myself and I need to see someone I can relate to.’ And I wanted everybody to see that you can relate to the successful person or you can relate to these millionaires and celebrities — they’re exactly where you’re going to be. It’s just, right now, you’re in a horrible storm and you just can’t see the rainbow. And that’s what “Eating While Broke” is about,”
The show features Witt in one-on-one conversations with celebrities, entrepreneurs and influencers as her guests take her through the highs and lows of their career, sharing a budget meal that the personalities enjoyed before their financial success. At a custom table designed by Neo and Associates architecture firm, Witt and her guests have made syrup sandwiches, hot dogs and beans, ramen noodles and a dip made of Cheetos and nacho cheese.
Recorded from a location within the Panorama Mall, the first episode will premiere later this month through the Black Effect network, a partnership between iHeartRadio and Charlamagne tha God, on all listening platforms. The network will sell advertisements and split the revenue with Witt’s firm.
A serial entrepreneur, Witt produced private and corporate events for clients including the Business Journal, before pivoting to podcast production. She came up with the idea for the show in 2019 and decided to start finding a way to produce it during the pandemic, when coronavirus concerns decimated her business as an event planner. In conversations with her friends, they bonded over shared financial struggles and decided now would be the perfect time to launch the inspirational podcast, as people try to recover from the pandemic.
“I have had a love affair with failure for a long time. Like, I call it an abusive relationship with failure. You know, I love it and I hate it at the same time. I hate failing, but I know it makes me stronger,” Witt said.
Guests on the show include artists Azjah and Kid Ink and influencer AJ Crimson, with more to be announced.
