Startup Airline to Begin Flights From Hollywood Burbank Airport

Avelo Airlines will begin service this month from Hollywood Burbank Airport to 11 cities in seven western states.The transportation startup will fly three Boeing 737 planes with 189 seats. One-way fares start at $19 for an introductory period. Additional fees for carry-on and checked bags, assigned seats and other modestly priced optional services apply, the airline said.Cities that Avelo will fly to include Santa Rosa and Redding in California; Bozeman, Mont.; Eugene, Ore.; Ogden, Utah; Grand Junction, Colo.; Phoenix/Mesa, Ariz.; and Pasco, Wash. Flights will range from daily to three times a week.Avelo, formerly known as Xtra Airways, is a subsidiary of Houston Air Holdings Inc. About a year ago, its Chief Executive Andrew Levy raised $125 million for the airline.Avelo has a simple a purpose – to inspire travel, Levy said.“People are ready to reconnect with family and friends and explore new places,” he added in a statement. “Avelo is a different and better kind of airline, built from scratch to offer an affordable, convenient and caring travel experience.”The airline chose Hollywood Burbank as its first hub due to its location and convenience to Los Angeles and Southern California attractions, compact size and lower costs, it said in a release.“As the San Fernando Valley's hometown airport, (Hollywood Burbank) will give you easy access to an abundance of beautiful and relaxing new non-stop destinations across California and the Western U.S.,” Levy said in his statement.
