New Flight Charters, an on-demand charter brokerage in Denver, now publishes the largest online public listing of “empty legs” in the travel industry, with more than 200 upcoming and available flights. Also known as “ferry flights,” empty legs are flights without passengers when an aircraft needs to move to another airport. Empty legs can create a discount jet charter. “When an empty leg matches up with a flight need, there is no better value in private flying,” Rick Colson, New Fight Charters’ president, said in a statement. For example, New Flight’s listings included a Dec. 2 trip from Van Nuys to Sun Valley, Idaho aboard a Gulfstream IV for only $13,600. “Quotes will vary since each empty leg charter is unique, but pricing is typically 30 to 50 percent lower than standard charter quotes,” New Flight said in a statement. Van Nuys Airport is among the busiest general aviation airports in the world. Through October, the airport handled 183,890 takeoffs and landings this year.
