GeoLinks Funding Approved for Internet Buildout

GeoLinks has been formally approved to receive funding for the buildout of internet connections in rural California and Nevada. The Camarillo internet service provider was awarded $87.8 million last summer from the Federal Communications Commission to bring internet service to 11,000 homes as part of a project of the Universal Service Administrative Co., a private nonprofit funded by the FCC to manage money for federal programs. GeoLinks Chief Executive Skyler Ditchfield said the company was thrilled to have been cleared by the FCC and the USAC. “While the announcement back in August was undoubtedly exciting, we are now officially in the position to begin deployment throughout both states,” Ditchfield said in a statement. GeoLinks was the recipient of the largest amount in California from the FCC’s Connect America Fund Phase II auction and the fifth largest overall. The auction provided a total of $1.49 billion that will be allocated over the next 10 years.
