Semtech’s LoRa on Display at Innovation World Cup

Semtech Corp. provided the long-range, low-power technology used by three companies recognized at the Innovation World Cup at MWC Barcelona this week. The Camarillo company’s technology, known as LoRa, was showcased at the annual show by Axino Solutions, KotahiNet and Vinduino to demonstrate its proven, easy-to-use capabilities. Axino, in Aachen, Germany, used the Semtech sensors to predict core temperature of different refrigerated food items in retail stores. KotahiNet, a Wellington, New Zealand startup, used the technology for river pollution monitoring. Vinduino, a smart agriculture company in Temecula, applied the sensors to optimize irrigation based on local weather data and soil moisture. Marc Pegulu, vice president in Semtech’s Wireless and Sensing Products Group, said the recognition of the three companies reflects a larger trend of success for LoRa globally. “LoRa technology has benefited from mass adoption in a variety of Internet of Things solutions that solve complex issues and continues to create unique, highly innovative applications,” Pegulu said in a statement. The Innovation World Cup is a competition for Internet of Things and wearable technology early-stage companies. Twenty companies were recognized from the more than 500 submissions from around the world.
