Valley Region Airports Receive $25 Million in FAA Grants

Airports in the San Fernando and Antelope valleys are receiving grants from the Federal Aviation Administration totaling about $25 million for repair and reconstruction projects. Fox Airport in Lancaster will receive $10.6 million to rebuild a runway; Van Nuys will receive $9.2 million for taxiway reconstruction; and Hollywood Burbank will get $5.2 million for repair of a taxiway and aircraft apron, the area where planes park and load and unload passengers. “These Airport Improvement Program grants will ensure that safer, more efficient Los Angeles area airports remain economic engines and vital infrastructure components for their communities,” Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao said in a statement. Another $11 million will go to Los Angeles International Airport to construct an apron and a taxiway. Airports receive a certain amount of Airport Improvement Program entitlement funding each year based on activity levels and project needs.
