L.A. City Attorney Targets Illegal Pot Operations

Nine commercial businesses in the San Fernando Valley were among the 32 named in criminal cases filed by Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer targeting unlicensed cannabis activity. Feuer’s office filed misdemeanor criminal charges against 142 defendants for violating the city’s municipal code by not receiving a license for commercial cannabis activity. If convicted, the defendants face up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. Starting in January all businesses selling cannabis needed to be licensed by both the city and state. This requirement went into effect in conjunction with the start of recreational marijuana sales in California. “Businesses that flout the city’s new cannabis law will be held accountable,” Feuer said in a statement. “I urge all property owners and marijuana businesses to follow the law and work with my office and the city’s Department of Cannabis Regulation to avoid facing serious criminal consequences.” The businesses targeted in the Valley were located at 12777 San Fernando Road in Sylmar; 12737 Glen Oaks Drive in Sylmar; 21044 Sherman Way in Canoga Park; 15238 Saticoy St. in Van Nuys; 8717 Woodman Avenue in Panorama City; 14626 Victory Blvd. in Van Nuys; 10352 Laurel Canyon Blvd. in Pacoima; 15201 Oxnard St. in Van Nuys; and 9820 San Fernando Road in Pacoima.
