Local Leaders Win Public Service Awards

Seven Valley-area leaders were honored for their community involvement at a luncheon event Thursday at the Hilton Woodland Hills hotel. About 400 attended the 18th annual Justice Armand Arabian Leaders in Public Service Awards event. The awards are named for a former California Supreme Court justice, who was on stage to help present the awards. Those honored were Huey P. Cotton, a supervising judge for the Los Angeles Superior Court; Mickey Dolenz, the singer and actor; Horace Heidt, an apartment complex owner and band leader; brothers Dana and David Pump, community leaders known for their basketball camps for youth; John Sherman, deputy chief of the Los Angeles Police Department; and Jane Stanton, executive director of the North Valley YMCA. Awards are given for “those who have proven to be exceptional leaders and that have a passion to serve and stand for others,” according to Diana Sanchez, president of the Encino Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the awards event. Also presenting awards were Karl Boeckmann and Rickey Gelb; they also presented scholarships to four students. The master of ceremonies was Wink Martindale.
