DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. has expanded its distribution deal with Netflix Inc. to include more original programming. The Glendale feature film and television content studio will create new original series for streaming through Netflix, in Los Gatos, as well as streaming rights of the studio’s feature film library. The content will be streamed globally except for in China. DreamWorks Animation President Ann Daly said the expanded agreement adds to the foundation the studio has built with Netflix over the years in both film and television. “We are proud to work closely with Netflix to continue delivering high-quality programming to audiences around the world,” Daly said in a prepared statement. DreamWorks Animation became partners with Netflix in 2013 to create 300 hours of new programming based on box-office hits “Shrek,” “Madagascar,” “Kung Fu Panda,” and “How to Train Your Dragon.” New series starting this year include a reboot of the 1980s animated show “Voltron” and “Trollhunters” from acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro. Future series will be based on upcoming DreamWorks Animation feature films as well as other properties it owns from its 2012 acquisition of Classic Media. The deal was announced Tuesday. Shares closed down on Wednesday at 5 cents, or a fraction of a percent, to $24.93 on the Nasdaq.
