Jill Miller, a Studio City fitness instructor, has tunnel vision when it comes to body alignment – how a person sits, stands or walks. “That’s all I see,” she said, referring to what catches her eye while going about her day or flipping through magazines. “I have to put blinders on.” This compulsion to observe skeletal alignment was one of the topics she discussed during her first-ever national television appearance, April 29 on NBC’s “Today” show, during which she promoted her Tune Up Fitness Worldwide Inc. Miller founded the company with husband Robert Faust in 2009, making a name for herself with her Yoga Tune Up method, which blends disciplines such as yoga and calisthenics to heal injuries and prevent new ones by increasing strength and flexibility. Miller, who largely runs the company out of the couple’s Valley home, sells instructional DVDs and equipment on her yogatuneup.com website and has created a group fitness class named Rx Series, which is taught at Equinox gyms nationwide. On average Miller spends two weeks a month on the road, and she believes what she does is especially applicable to business professionals who spend all day sitting or logging long hours at busy airports. “Everyone is suffering from these pains due to our modern living,” she said. A native of Santa Fe, N.M., Miller studied a variety of body disciplines including dance, massage and yoga while getting her bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University. She later studied under a master yoga teacher before moving to Los Angeles. An entertainment industry veteran, Faust was founder of the Los Angeles Film Festival. A fitness enthusiast, he took one of Miller’s classes and was impressed by her ability to reach all of his “body blind spots.” He felt that she could reach more people and pitched her on the idea of entrepreneurship. Miller charges students $925 to be certified as trainers, which includes 70 hours of instruction in a group setting. And her instructional DVD sells for $19.95 on the website. Miller was teaching yoga classes before Faust eventually persuaded her to start the business. In 2008, he sold his North Hollywood company Arthouse Marketing Group LLC to join her in business. “As a serial entrepreneur, I wanted to create a company that provided value to humankind in some meaningful way,” he said. – Rosie Downey
