Colorado-based Woodward Governor Company will be manufacturing tank operating systems for a new military contract out of its Santa Clarita production facility, the company said. The U.S. Marine Corps Systems Command awarded its Improved Loader Weapon Station contract to Woodward HRT, Inc., which is a subsidiary of Woodward Governor Company. The Improved Loader Weapons Station is a remote weapons station for the U.S. Marine Corps’ main battle tank machine guns. It mounts on the tank’s exterior and allows an operator to remotely control target selections, aiming and firing while inside the tank. The contract covers initial orders for up to 457 systems. The company markets its system under the name Small Caliber Ultra-Light, or SCUL. The company also manufactures products for the aerospace, power generation and distribution and transportation markets.
