Movie Junkyard Sells for $21.5 Million

Hollywood’s favorite junkyard for movies such as “Deep Impact” and “Escape from L.A.” has been sold, according to commercial real estate broker CBRE Group Inc. The 26-plus acre property in Sun Valley housing Aadlen Bros. Auto Wrecking – known as U Pick Parts – at 11590 Tuxford Street has sold for $21.5 million to Sun Valley Land, the brokerage said. The auto-dismantling business, which was established in 1962, was set to close Jan. 1, according to a story by the Los Angeles Daily News. The company operated as a self-serve yard for automobiles and sold parts at steep discounts. The site was also used as a location for film and television productions. The block-sized lot atop an old Tuxford pit landfill is adjacent to the 5 freeway and is accessible from the 170 freeway. It is zoned for industrial use, including warehouse, according to CBRE. There are also 30,000 square feet of structures on the lot. CBRE’s Dave Harding, Greg Geraci, Matt Dierckman and Billy Walk represented Aadlen while Sun Valley Land was represented by Joe Carroll from Los Gatos-based Resource One Real Estate. “The property drew strong interest from a variety of buyers as land opportunities of this size that are strategically located are rare to find in this area,” Harding said.
