Radio Ad Time Auction Site Backs “Day of Silence”

Radio advertising time auction site Bid4Spots voiced its support on Tuesday for a national boycott by online broadcasters in protest of royalty rate increases. Encino-based Bid4Spots provides a reverse auction to sell advertising time on terrestrial and online radio stations. The national “Day of Silence” protests an impending royalty rate increase for online broadcasters that some say will result in a shut down of the Internet radio industry. “Although Bid4Spots doesn’t have a stream to silence, we want the industry to know we stand with the broadcasters in their fight to save Internet radio,” company CEO Dave Newmark said. “As a business we’re looking forward to getting this issue resolved, so we can all get back to what we like to do which, for us, is helping broadcasters generate advertising revenue.” The new royalty rates go into effect on July 15.
