Los Angeles Sues FAA Over Burbank Airport’s New Terminal

Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer plans to sue the Federal Aviation Administration over deficiencies in the environmental review process for the proposed replacement terminal at Hollywood Burbank Airport. In the lawsuit, the city will allege that the FAA failed to take into consideration comments from the city during the agency’s environmental review process.Feuer said that he was standing up to the FAA and fighting for the residents of Los Angeles.“Here we allege that the FAA flouted significant environmental rules in preparing for the planned replacement terminal at Burbank Airport,” Feuer said in a statement. The Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority plans to build the 14-gate replacement terminal on 49 acres north of the existing terminal, which was built in 1930. Burbank voters approved the project in November 2016 with the passage of ballot initiative Measure B.L.A. City Councilman Paul Krekorian, whose district abuts the airport, said that last fall the city asked the FAA for additional time during the draft environmental impact statement public comment period to ensure the city’s concerns were recorded in the process.“At the time our city departments raised serious questions about the potential negative impacts of this project,” Krekorian said in a statement. “This litigation creates the opportunity to address those impacts.”
