L.A. Officials Ask for Extension of Comment Period for Hollywood Burbank Airport Project

Los Angeles City Councilmember Paul Krekorian and City Attorney Mike Feuer have requested an extension of the public comment period of the draft environmental impact report for the proposed replacement terminal at Hollywood Burbank Airport. Hollywood Burbank, the San Fernando Valley’s only commercial airport, is owned by the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority. It is located in Burbank. The authority seeks to build a 14-gate replacement terminal on 49 acres north of the existing terminal, which was built in 1930. In a letter to the Federal Aviation Administration, Krekorian and Feuer asked that the public comment period be extended for 75 days beyond its Oct. 5 expiration to give the city and residents ample time to review the document and submit any comments. “The (draft) consists of 2,881 pages and addresses a number of potential environmental impacts concerning an important project that directly affects the lives of the city’s residents and businesses,” the two wrote in the letter. “Because the city is not represented on the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority, public comment on Burbank Airport projects is the only means for the city and the people of the city of Los Angeles to be heard as part of environmental review.” Krekorian and Feuer have asked the FAA for a response to their extension request as soon as possible.
