First Solar Project at Van Nuys Airport

Aeroplex/Aerolease Group announced Monday the first solar power project at Van Nuys Airport. The project consists of solar panels mounted on about 150,000 square feet of roof and canopy space at the Aeroplex/Aerolease Group complex. The company provides storage, hangar and office space at the airport. The project will generate about 2.5 million kilowatts of electricity and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 4 million pounds annually. “This is the first-ever solar installation at Van Nuys Airport that will help reduce its carbon footprint and demonstrate the aviation community’s commitment to environmental stewardship,” Aeroplex/Aerolease Group Chief Executive Curt Castagna said in a statement. “There exists tremendous potential for airports across the nation to implement sustainable energy projects, and we hope to continue in these efforts by leading with this initiative.” The solar project is scheduled to start producing electricity before the end of the year.
