Viking Takes Delivery of Second Ocean Cruiser

Viking Cruises took delivery Thursday of its second ocean cruise ship, the Viking Sea, and will christen it on May 5 in London. Viking Sea is the second of six ships to take to the sea on the Woodland Hills company’s new ocean cruise line. Viking Sea will spend its inaugural season in Scandinavia, the Baltic region and the Mediterranean. Like its sister-ship the Viking Star, it grosses 47,000 tons and can accommodate up to 930 passengers in 465 staterooms. The ship has two pools, a spa, curated library, theater and boutique shops. The third ship of the fleet, Viking Sky, is on order and will be delivered in early 2017. Viking’s ocean line launched last year. It has small ships that cater to experienced travelers and offer a more culturally rich experience than those aboard mainstream cruisers. “As we take delivery of Viking Sea we now double Viking’s ocean capacity, which demonstrates how enthusiastic our guests are for destination-focused cruises,” Torstein Hagen, chairman of Viking Cruises, said in a statement. “We look forward to further increasing our presence next year and the years after that.”
