Valencia cruise company Cunard announced Thursday a partnership with Cool Cousin, a travel technology company that makes destination guides curated by locals. Cool Cousin will make roughly 200 travel guides for Cunard cruise destinations for port cities from Hong Kong to Cape Town. The company uses machine learning and artificial intelligence to compile crowdsourced recommendations for attractions such as restaurants, city landmarks, shopping centers and off-the-beaten-path destinations. “The Cunard customer is becoming ever more curious and adventurous, seeking authentic recommendations,” Sam Cole, Cunard’s shore experiences director, said in a statement. “These guides are powered by locals, which makes it easier for our guests to seek out unique experiences in every destination they visit.” The guides will be rolled out on Cunard cruises between January and July 2020. Electronic versions will be available for download 15 days prior to sailing and paper versions will be given to guests once on board. Cunard operates the ships Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth. The company is a unit of Carnival Corp. & plc.
