Van Nuys Airport Names Operations Chief

Van Nuys Airport has named Christian Moreno as chief of operations, the airport announced Monday. A nearly 30-year aviation industry veteran, Moreno will manage the staff that inspect airport facilities such as runways, taxiways, hangars, buildings and fuel service locations. Moreno will also support the airport in times of emergencies and other incidents. Moreno replaced Flora Margheritis, who had been chief of airport operations and then became airport manager after the former airport manager, Jess Romo, left to take a position with Long Beach Airport. In his most recent position, Moreno managed flight operations at Los Angeles International Airport for a major international carrier. Other past positions he has held include airport operations supervisor at Portland International Airport, terminal manager at Los Angeles World Airport’s Tom Bradley International Terminal and superintendent of operations for the Van Nuys Airport between 2011 and 2014. Moreno is a certified private pilot and has an aircraft dispatcher license. Van Nuys Airport is one of the world’s busiest general aviation airports and averages more than 217,000 takeoffs and landings each year. The entity is owned by Los Angeles World Airports, an agency of the city of Los Angeles.
