The University of Texas at Austin has chosen Ixia to provide visibility and security systems to enhance the school’s computer networks, the company announced Wednesday. The university selected three products from the Calabasas security software developer — the Net Tool Optimizer NTO 7300, the Application and Threat Intelligence Processor and Ixia Flex Taps. The school has more than 51,000 students plus an additional 3,000 professors, which creates high volume and heavy network traffic, posing security and cost risks. “We were trying to stay ahead of steadily increasing traffic volumes, coupled with the growing need for robust digital security and network visibility,” Cam Beasley, chief information security officer at UT, said in a statement. “Ixia’s solutions outperformed the competitors we reviewed, offering an industry leading GUI, dynamic filtering, and improved network responsiveness that will allow the Information Security Office to assure the information security of UT and the existence of a safe computing environment in which the university community can teach, learn, and conduct research.” The Net Tool Optimizer offers end-to-end visibility and security while monitoring network traffic for analysis. The Application and Threat Intelligence Processor filters traffic from social media apps, and Ixia Flex Taps supports traffic visibility. Flex Taps also conserves rack space, the area where computer servers are located, and improves signal reliability. Ixia shares closed down 23 cents, or 1.77 percent, to $12.75 on the Nasdaq.
