Eyenuk Partnership Puts Screening Technology in Clinics

Eyenuk Inc. in Woodland Hills announced on Monday it will partner with Wagner Macula & Retina Center in Virginia, a research and treatment center specializing in medical and surgical eye diseases. The Virginia center plans to lead the region in telemedicine by delivering Eyenuk’s screening technology, which checks for diabetic complications in the eyes, to more than 1.8 million people throughout Virginia and North Carolina, the organization said in a statement. Wagner Macula operates nine clinics focused on diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, eye tumors and other eye diseases. “Silently progressing, blinding eye diseases such as diabetic retinopathy do not stop during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Dr. Alan Wagner, an ophthalmologist specializing in vitreoretinal surgery and research, said in a statement. “Eyenuk’s novel telemedicine and AI technologies enables WMRC to screen at-risk patients remotely and accurately, bringing care to more of our at-risk community, and frees up our physicians’ time to focus on clinic patients and those requiring surgery, even during the pandemic.” Eyenuk’s EyeScreen Human + AI Diagnostic service assesses retinal images via an AI system and then a “specialist human grader” before being sent to a physician for review.
