Assemblymember, California State Assembly
Carrillo represents the 52nd District, which includes parts of Glendale; she was elected in December 2017. She is chair of a budget subcommittee, which means she plays a pivotal role in determining allocations for state resources. She also serves on the Appropriations, Health, Housing and Community Development, and Utilities and Energy committees, in addition to leading the Select Committee on Latina Inequities. Prior to entering the political realm, Carrillo was for 12 years a broadcast journalist reporting on human rights, global conflicts, and U.S. politics. In an earlier role, she worked in communications for a health care workers union and served as a communications deputy for a member of the Los Angeles City Council.
