Rodriguez was elected to the Los Angeles City Council in June 2017, which made her the first woman to represent the 7th District and the third Latina to serve on the City Council. The 7th District includes Sylmar, Mission Hills, Pacoima, Tujunga and La Tuna Canyon. She prioritizes solving issues regarding affordable housing, homelessness, expanding opportunities for youth, strengthening the small-business community and delivering improved city services. Rodriguez is the first woman of color appointed to chair the Public Safety Committee and has worked to shut down illegal cannabis operations, reform emergency response protocols for wildfires, and expand the Community Safety Partnership.
