Stern represents the 27th Senate District, which includes much of the San Fernando and Conejo valleys along with Santa Clarita. Stern was first elected in November 2016, and has been an advocate for environmental justice. He led efforts to close down the Aliso Canyon Natural Gas Storage Facility, which at the time had the largest methane leak ever recorded. Additionally, Stern has pushed for increased disclosure requirements when oil companies employ toxic acid-treatment procedures for drilling operations. He is a former educator and environmental attorney.
