ReachLocal Inc. on Monday released open-source software code that it said should help other developers create cross-platform mobile apps. The Woodland Hills company which offers local, online marketing services for small and medium sized businesses, said its LigerMobile open source framework was originally developed to run its ReachEdge mobile app for Android and iOS. ReachLocal said the development community can create their own applications with the code and improve it. This is the company’s first large scale, open source effort. “LigerMobile is a novel approach to building hybrid mobile apps, and it lowers the barriers of entry for web developers to produce and release high quality products, regardless of operating system,” Michael Lee, ReachLocal head of engineering, said in statement. Shares closed up 3 cents, or less than 1 percent, to $10.65 on the Nasdaq.
