LAPD’s Charlie Beck to Retire

Los Angeles Chief of Police Charlie Beck announced Friday that he plans to retire from his post at the beginning of the summer. “Serving the citizens of Los Angeles for over 40 years has been the honor of a lifetime,” Beck posted to Twitter. “The department is ready for fresh eyes to take our organization to even higher levels.” Beck, 64, has served as the head of the Los Angeles Police Department for the past eight years. His career in L.A. law enforcement has spanned more than four decades. His last day will be June 27. It was not announced who would replace him.
