Palmdale Inn Enters Receivership

The Palmdale Inn has been placed under the control of a receiver following a ruling by the Los Angeles Superior Court, officials announced late Monday afternoon. Located at 217 E. Palmdale Blvd., the 49-room hotel was issued a notice to vacate on Dec. 13 after accumulating more than 400 violations of local and state building and safety codes. Palmdale police since 2013 have responded to more than 50 instances of drug-related crimes at the property, dozens of which had resulted in arrests. “Valuable police resources were drained by this property due to the constant police attention it required,” Palmdale City Attorney Matthew Ditzhazy said in a statement. At least 400 calls were made to the sheriff’s department regarding criminal activity at the Palmdale Inn in 2016 alone, according to figures provided by the city. The hotel was built in 1986 and has changed hands a few times in the decades since, according to real estate data firm CoStar Group Inc. It is currently owned by Michael Herrera, doing business as Palmdale Lodging. Herrera recently was denied a request for injunctive and declaratory relief in a related civil rights case against the city of Palmdale, court documents show. The L.A. Superior Court has appointed California Receivership Group, a company that specializes in restoring properties in continued violation of city and state health and safety codes, to develop and execute a rehabilitation plan for the Palmdale Inn.
