Novelty Store Aah’s Closes in Encino

“Aah’s! The Ultimate Gift Store” closed its Encino location Sunday after eight years at 15960 Ventura Blvd. The local mini-chain operates novelty stores selling knick-knacks such as key chains, t-shirts, gag gifts, toys, Halloween costumes and party supplies. The gaudy purple and yellow storefront was one of Ventura Boulevard’s most recognizable since the store relocated there from Sherman Oaks in 2012. It is unclear what will become of the location. Aah’s locations in West Hollywood and Santa Monica closed after lengthy liquidation sales last year. The company didn’t confirm a reason for the closures, but joins the legions of retail stores throughout the San Fernando Valley and country that have downsized following the meteoric rise of e-commerce. Other Aah’s locations in Westwood, Torrance, Buena Park and City of Industry will stay open. The parent company Aah’s Enterprises Inc. owns three other banners — Aah’s Corporate Awards, which makes engravings, plaques and trophies; Aah’s Signs, which makes company-branded banners, signage and graphics; and Halloween Club, which operates four permanent Halloween stores. None of the businesses have a presence in the Valley.
