Dine Brands Appoints CFO

Dine Brands Global Inc. has appointed Thomas Song as chief financial officer. The Glendale restaurant company, which owns the Applebee’s and IHOP chains, has hired 10 new executives over the past year, including Chief Executive Steve Joyce, who replaced Julia Stewart in July. Song, a senior executive at Choice Hotels International Inc., will replace the company’s interim chief financial officer Greggory Kalvin effective May 29. Kalvin will stay on as senior vice president and corporate controller. Kalvin took over the interim position after former chief financial officer Thomas W. Emery left the company left to join Munchkin Inc. in May of last year. In February, Dine Brands changed its name form DineEquity Inc. and announced a comprehensive plan to return growth after two years of declining revenues. The Glendale-based company said it will invest heavily in technology and data analysis to better understand consumers. “Our approach includes strengthening the leadership team and making strategic and meaningful investments,” Joyce said in a statement. “After a comprehensive nationwide search, during which we identified and evaluated a number of highly-qualified candidates, Tom emerged as the clear choice to become our next chief financial officer.” Song has overseen corporate development and strategy at Choice Hotels since 2013. The company own hospitality brands including Comfort Inn, Quality Inn and Econo Lodge. Shares of Dine Brands (DIN) on Wednesday fell $1.52, or nearly 2 percent, to close at $76.50 on the New York Stock Exchange.
