Edison Cuts Power in Parts of Northern L.A. County, Ventura County

Southern California Edison has cut power to homes and businesses in parts of northern Los Angeles County and Ventura County as a precaution to prevent wildfires. According to the SoCal Edison website, at noon Thursday shutoffs went into effect in parts of Palmdale, Acton, Tehachapi and Agua Dulce in the Antelope Valley, and Simi Valley, Fillmore and Santa Susana in Ventura County. The utility calls the procedure a “Public Safety Power Shutoff event.” “Turning off our customers’ power is not something we take lightly, but PSPS events are one of the ways we can better ensure the safety of the public, our customers and our employees,” the company’s website states. “During these events, we will proactively turn off power in high fire risk areas to reduce the threat of wildfires.” The list of potential communities that could have power shut down includes large swathes of the San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley and eastern Ventura County, involving about 49,000 customers in Los Angeles County and 20,000 in Ventura County.
