Westcord Broker Denny Bloom Dies

Longtime Westcord Commercial Group real estate broker Dennis “Denny” Bloom died Aug. 19, according to the company. He was 81. “He was a very big part of the Westcord organization that was founded in 1969 and will deeply be missed,” the Westlake Village brokerage said in a statement. Born and raised in Minneapolis, Bloom came to Los Angeles in 1964, when he entered the retail shoe business as a buyer of women’s shoes. In 1981, Bloom changed careers into real estate, joining Westcord in Westlake Village, where he spent nearly four decades specializing in the sales and leasing of commercial real estate. As Westcord colleague Tony Principe told the Business Journal: “Denny had done numerous transactions over his 39 years with Westcord. He was very active with selling properties all over L.A. and Ventura counties, with an emphasis on Thousand Oaks Boulevard.” Among Bloom’s transactions: He sold 3 acres in front of Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, now owned by the city of Thousand Oaks, which is planned for a major expansion and revitalization, as well as the adjacent 1.56 acre parcel, which has been earmarked toward a mixed-use project. He sold the Taco Bell and 3 acres on Thousand Oaks Boulevard and Rancho Road, which is now a self-storage facility. He also sold the 18,000-square-foot industrial building on Willow Lane in Westlake Village to the Conejo Valley Veterinary Hospital. Bloom was active in numerous civic and charity organizations, including City of Thousand Oaks – Mayor’s Business Roundtable, Thousand Oaks Boulevard Owners Association and Thousand Oaks Rotary Club. “Denny was a very unique personality; he was deep and philosophical,” Principe said. “He was never afraid to debate with people with completely opposite views regarding the world and politics and could do so in a respectful manner. Everyone in the office really enjoyed working with Denny.” Bloom is survived by his sons, David and Jonathon.
