Nine Houses Proposed for Half-Acre in Winnetka

Winnetka may have new housing soon, according to city of Los Angeles Planning Department documents.Project applicants Taiwo Laditi and Baba Osiname, affiliated with Los Angeles contractor Ayus & Co., want to build eight new residences at 20454 W. Strathern Ave., joining one existing home. The plans call for a land subdivision of the roughly half-acre property into four parcels. An existing single-family house that was completed in the 1970s will remain with eight more houses with accessory dwelling units, as well as junior ADUs, erected on the other three parcels. The new construction would cover 10,312 square feet.New laws that went into effect last year loosened regulations on building apartments or small homes on existing home lots, known colloquially as “granny flats.” Public officials have supported building ADUs as a way to ease California’s housing shortage. The Winnetka market has seen its share of recent residential projects. A three-story building with 40 units was recently approved at 6817 N. Winnetka Ave.  North Hollywood-based developer Golden Oak Properties has enlisted Calabasas-based Ken Stockton Architects to design this project. There is also a four-story, 154-unit apartment complex proposed to replace medical offices at 7111 N. Winnetka Ave. Developer Rainbow Investments and architects Arcafoma are behind the project.
