American Homes 4 Rent has named Tamara Hughes Gustavson as chairwoman of its board of trustees, the company announced Thursday. Gustavson has served on the board of the Agoura Hills-based real estate investment trust since 2016. She is the daughter of Wayne Hughes, a founder of American Homes and former chairman who also founded Public Storage in Glendale. She is a shareholder of both companies. Last year, Los Angeles Business Journal, a sister publication, estimated her wealth at $4.6 billion, making her the 14th wealthiest person in the Los Angeles market. American Homes 4 Rent also named Matthew Hart as the board’s lead independent Trustee. He joined the board in 2012 and also serves on the board of American Airlines Group Inc. and Air Lease Corp. He previously held executive positions at Hilton Hotels Corp. Finally, the board elected David Goldberg as a trustee and set the board size at 10 people. Goldberg served as the company’s executive vice president from 2012 until earlier this month. He previously held executive positions at Public Storage. “We are pleased to announce these changes to our board,” American Homes 4 Rent Chief Executive David Singelyn said in a statement. “Tamara Gustavson’s election as chairman of the board continues the important role the Hughes family has played in the company since its founding in 2012.” American Homes 4 Rent specializes in single-family house rentals. Shares of American Homes 4 Rent (AMH) closed up 11 cents, or a fraction of a percent, to $23.64 on the New York Stock Exchange.
