Oakmont Senior Living’s plans for a two-story assisted living and memory care center is heading to the Moorpark City Council for final approval in August. If approved, the assisted-living center, zoned to scale up to 35 feet, will be constructed at 13960 Peach Hill Road on a 2.78-acre lot. On June 26, the city’s planning commissioners unanimously passed the facility proposal. The project would fill the area’s increasing demand for senior living spaces with a two-story, 77-unit, 84-bed structure that will feature a roster of amenities, including a library, gym, beauty salon, movie theater, casual and formal dining rooms, storage area, outdoor pet park and community garden, and a memory-care garden with a courtyard. Seventy of the units at the facility will be 1-bedroom suites, plus 7 two-bedrooms. About 45 parking spaces will be created. Oakmont estimates that the number of employees at the assisted living center will fluctuate from 28 staffers during peak hours to five on night shift. The proposal, which will be brought to Moorpark City Council for final approval Aug. 18, represents the latest attempt to develop the property. In 1999, a 38-bed residential dementia facility was proposed, followed by a 24-room medical plaza center in 2007, and, in 2013, a 21,644-square-foot church. All three projects were approved by the City Council; however, none of these endeavors ever materialized and their respective entitlements have expired. The proposal was met with no opposition from the community at the June 26 Planning Commission meeting, while Oakmont Director of Development James Lawson said that the facility will address the needs of some approximately 6,000 residents ages 75 and older living in the Moorpark area.
