Agoura Hills is about to get fit. National health club chain LA Fitness plans to build a 45,000-square-foot fitness center on a 4-acre property at 29431 Agoura Road next to two planned hotels, according to brokerage Lee & Associates-LA North/Ventura. The chain signed a 15-year lease for the property from the land owner, Westlake Village’s Selleck Development Group, which will also build the new health club. LA Fitness’s new location will include a pool, racquetball, basketball and volleyball courts and a kids’ club, according to Lee & Associates. Lee & Associates Principals Mike Tingus and Grant Fulkerson represented Selleck in the lease and build-to-suit deal, and said it took the team several years to get approval from the city and residents for the facility because the planned gym needed a height variance to accommodate the basketball and racquetball courts. The gym will be next to the two connecting hotels that Huntington Hotel Group of Irving, Texas plans to build at 29508 Roadside Drive between Calabasas and Westlake Village. Selleck recently sold a 5.7-acre parcel for $6.5 million to the hotel developer, which plans to build the hotels with a total of 225 rooms. That deal was also brokered by Lee & Associates. “We think there will be some good synergy between the hotel and the fitness facility,” Fulkerson said. “The continued growth of the business community in Agoura Hills really does demand these new amenities.” Selleck will also build a 4,000-square-foot pad building at an adjacent site to the health club at Agoura Road and Roadside Drive. The space can be divided into smaller units for potential retail and restaurant operators, Lee & Associates said.
