Antonovich Seeks to Halt Porter Ranch Development

Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich has sent a letter to county officials asking for a moratorium on land annexations to curtail development in Porter Ranch and Chatsworth, including a proposed residential project. The letter to the county’s Local Agency Formation Commission asks for a moratorium on annexations of county land to the city of Los Angeles in the Northwest San Fernando Valley. “Specifically, I seek the annexation moratorium on the proposed Hidden Creeks development currently pending City of Los Angeles approval,” the letter states. A leak in a gas well owned by Southern California Gas Co. has displaced thousands of residents in Porter Ranch. Antonovich said in the letter that until an investigation is conducted to find the cause of the leak and safeguard against future leaks, “it is not appropriate to annex any further county territory to the city of Los Angeles for residential development,” the letter states. Hidden Creeks is a 118-home development on 114 acres in Porter Ranch designed for horse-owning home buyers. Forestar Real Estate Group Inc. in Austin, Texas has presented the proposal for Hidden Creeks to the city’s planning commission. In his letter, Antonovich noted that Hidden Creeks would add more homes in close proximity to the gas facility.
