Sylmar construction contractor Tutor Perini Corp. has won two contracts worth a combined value of up to $742 million to expand subway access to New York City from the outer boroughs. Tutor won contracts with the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority for the East Side Access project, which will enable more Long Island and eastern Queens commuters to get to Manhattan’s east side using the Long Island Rail Road. Under one contract worth $663 million, Tutor will build and finish four platforms and eight tracks for a new terminal under Grand Central Terminal, including elevators, escalators and staircases. Under a separate contract, Tutor will build a tunnel approach and rebuild a bridge in Sunnyside, Queens, to deliver riders to Grand Central Terminal. That contract is worth up to $79 million if work is expanded. The East Side Access project is scheduled to be complete in December 2022. Shares closed up $1.03 or 8.9 percent to $12.58 on the New York Stock Exchange.
