Glendale’s famous special effects house, Cinovation Studios Inc., has undergone its own transformation into a self-storage facility and has been sold to a new owner. Extra Space Storage Inc. of Salt Lake City and Bristol Group Inc. in San Francisco partnered to buy the recently converted property at 6527 San Fernando Road for $13.8 million, according to Re/Max Evolution Commercial. In 2014, Morelli Brothers Enterprises of Glendale bought the property from seven-time Academy Award winning special effects artist Rick Baker for $7.4 million, according to CoStar Group Inc. Baker operated his studio there for 40-plus years before retiring last year. The facility was built in 1982, according to CoStar. Morelli Brothers converted the studio into a two-story, 70,000-square-foot facility with 700 self-storage units, according to Re/Max. It features a rental office, climate control and security cameras. Re/Max Vice President Stephen Grossman brokered the deal.
